Spain, once again!

This is the last Spain post, I promise.

SANGRIA!
It's not all fun and games on these trips.  After almost four days of fun, Jeremy had to go to work.

While Jeremy was working, I did some shopping on the Gran Via.  I liked shopping in Madrid vs. Paris because it was SO much more affordable.  And I'm getting cheaper and cheaper everyday!

We had some great times after work at different tapas places.

Even scouted out a cool store to go to the next day!!!
The next day I decided to take the metro to a modern art museum the Reina Sofia.  It was definitely awesome...all those art appreciation classes in college sure came in handy!

Exhibit called "Dot Obsession"  They weren't kidding...wow.

This room was the coolest ever.  A maze filled with millions of tiny little lights that kept changing color.  I kept wishing my boys were with me, they would have loved it.

A work of art by Mr. Picasso:
By Salvadore Dali:

I don't remember the artist of this painting but I loved it and it was titled something like Spanish Fiesta

The courtyard:

A Dali Painting titled The Enigma of Hitler, painted right after WW2.
A small detail of the painting.  A picture of Hitler in the bowl.  I love all World War 2 history, so this was really fascinating to me.

Just outside the museum:

Jeremy got off of work and we went for a stroll and found roses!  I love European roses!

I love European balconies!

I especially love the two mixed together!

Plaza Mayor, the most popular plaza but a little too touristy for my liking.

Date night at the Market!

A little tapas and drinks before we went in.  This is the exact moment where I realized how wonderful a country is where wine is cheaper than the water.

Oh Olives!  I have a completely new appreciation for you now that I know how you are REALLY supposed to taste!

Our last evening was spent exploring Madrid's most popular city park, Retiro park.  Kate Middleton's sister Pippa was there rowing one of these boats just days before we were there.  It really was a beautiful place.

We took a fast cab to our dinner reservations.  We didn't quite get dropped off at the door, so we had to do some walking to find the place and thank goodness we did, because we found this gem:

This guy really made us lonesome for our big four-legged girl at home:

We went around the corner and finally found our restaurant.  A charming little Italian place run by a married couple from Argentina!  Jeremy had fun exchanging stories of Argentina with the owner.  She loves America and Americans, so it was great visiting with her.

Truly the best pasta we have ever had.  All of the pastas are shipped from Italy, so that's probably why!

And then there was dessert!  Tiramisu!

The END!  P.S. I wanna go BACK!

Spain, again

I realize that these posts are backwards.  One last pic at the bullfight:

Sunday morning we changed hotels.  Our first hotel was a five-star but seemed like a 2-star, at best.  So, off we went to our new "home" for the week.  This is the ultra-modern Roommates Oscar hotel lobby:

 Our view of the courtyard

Rooftop view.  I love the tile roofs.

And the ultra-cool rooftop bar and pool area:

Santa Maria Cathedral:

Palacio Real de Madrid (Royal Palace of Madrid):

We took a little break from touring and had some authentic paella.  Nom, nom!

El Rastro, the Sunday Flea Market:

Can't be in Europe without a scarf!

I was SO drawn to these paintings

Especially when I saw who the artist was:
We made friends with her quickly.  We are both suckers for little old women that remind us of our grandmothers.  We spoke really bad Spanish to her as she spoke really bad English to us. She was so greatful that we bought one of her paintings.

A courtyard we stumbled upon

The metro, a fast and cheap way to get around the city.
